AGRONOMIC PROTOCOL
  • • This trial was conducted in open field with a large and reputed citrus grower within Indian river district, FL
  • • Grapefruit trees (cv. red on cleo rootstock) were planted in 1977 (40 yrs old, perennial height = 35  ft).  The row spacing was 25 ft and tree spacing was 16 ft.
  • • Each plot comprised four (4) trees (25 ft width x 64 ft length) and each plot was separated by an untreated buffer tree.  There were four (4) replicate plots for each treatment.
  • • No grower applications of miticides were made during this study.
APPLICATIONS
  • • Foliar Application (Apps. A,; Trts 2-5)
  • • Foliar application were made on: • 08/03/2018 (App. A)
METHODOLOGY
  • • Application was made by airblast
  • • Treatments were applied with a tractor mounted sprayer (Rears Pak-Blast, 100 gallon sprayer) at 250 GPA (spray mix = 35.2 gallon + 4.8 gallon overage = 40 gallon total spray volume), 200 PSI and at a tractor speed of 1.7 MPH (1800 RPM, Gear A4).
  • • Each side of the plot was sprayed with 5 nozzles/side (ceramic: D8 x 5; all ceramic nozzles were fitted with a D45 whirlplate).
EVALUATIONS
  • Citrus Rust Mite (PHYUOL)
  • Motiles were measured on: 8/10/2018, 8/17/2018, 8/24/2018, 8/30/2018, 9/7/2018, 9/14/2018, 9/21/2018 and 9/28/2018.
  • In each plot, PHYUOL motiles were counted on six (6) fruit.  On each fruit, a hand lens (2.5 cm2 lens field) was used to count mites in three (3) separate lens field/fruit.
  • Therefore, the total lens field for 6 fruit was 45 cm2/plot.
  • Motiles were only counted in the center part of the fruit and facing the inside of the canopy.
PHYTO-TOXICITY
  • • Trees in each plot were examined for signs of phytotoxicity (discoloration etc.) on 7/11/2018, 8/23/2018 and 10/23/2018 and using a 0-100% rating scale: 0% = no phytotoxicity and 100% = dead trees.

Objectives: To demonstrate the ability of CYAN 365® to improve the efficacy of the miticides for the reduction of Rust Mites disease but also to help to grow more quality yield, more natural, more sustainable and more profitable. Main parameters monitored for this study: Citrus Rust Mite (PHYUOL) , only Motile population

Without any Citrus Oil, the combination between Agrimek (full or half rate) and Cyan 365® with only one application at 1 Qt/Acre as in [T4] or [T5] shows an interesting and positive response at helping to reduce the rust mites on fruit.

Important remarks: This shows the interest to combine Cyan 365® with a miticide. Why Cyan 365® combined with a miticide like Agromek SL may have some efficacy to help at reducing the Rust mites population on foliage or fruit? Hard to say so far... Some are suggesting that the presence of Polyphenolic compounds might alter the reproduction of the rust mites, some other say it is because Cyan 365® is strengthening the quality (cuticle) of the leaves and or the firmness of the peel...
